Even worse, bacteria from untreated dental disease can seep into the bloodstream, causing damage to the liver, heart, and kidneys.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fortunately, dental disease is preventable with at home dental care and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluffspetclinic.com\/getting-to-the-root-of-the-matter-the-importance-of-pet-dental-care\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regular dental exams and cleaning.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your At-Home Arsenal<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Toothbrush and toothpaste. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brushing your pet\u2019s teeth is the single best way to fight plaque and tartar at home. Start with a pet toothbrush and pet toothpaste. Let us know if you need help in learning how to brush your pet\u2019s teeth. Set a goal of brushing for 30 seconds on each side of your pet\u2019s mouth once a day. Even adult animals can learn to enjoy this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluffspetclinic.com\/a-gentle-approach-to-pet-care-announcing-our-fear-free-certification\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gentle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> attention.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Dental diets.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ask us if your pet can benefit from one of the effective dental <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluffspetclinic.com\/solving-your-pet-food-dilemma\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">diets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the market. Some also contain enzymes to decrease the amount of tartar buildup. Pets should not be allowed to chew on the following, as they commonly cause fractures of the upper premolars:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ice<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rocks<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Animal bones<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horse or cow hooves&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antlers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toys that seldom cause problems for teeth include rubber toys such as Nylabone and Kong products. Toys or treats that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluffspetclinic.com\/blog\/best-practices-for-puppy-proofing-your-home\/\">can be pulled apart<\/a> and ingested warrant close supervision.
